Fresh off his Oscar win for Little Miss Sunshine Alan Arkin is already lining up new projects. Well one anyway. So far his statue has only earned him a part in Steve Carell’s movie version of the classic spy comedy TV show Get Smart.
The Hollywood Reporter says Arkin joins the Peter Segal directed film to play Maxwell Smart’s boss, the chief of CONTROL. In the original 60s TV series the part was played by Edward Platt. Actually, Arkin is a phenomenal fit to replace Platt. It should be fun watching Steve Carell make him miserable, and I imagine Arkin to be a wiz with a shoe phone.
Carell, who co-starred with Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine, plays Smart. Also already in the cast is the knockout Miss Anne Hathaway as his love interest Agent 99, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Terrence Stamp in other as of now unspecified roles.
