Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot Fires Writer, Is Now Stuck In Limbo![]()
All the way back in November of last year it was announced that first-time writer Whit Anderson had been hired by Atlas Entertainment to write a new movie about Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The news was met with extreme outrage, not because fans don't want to see the character return, but because Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon, had nothing to do with the project. Since the initial announcement, we've heard very little about the film, with the exception of an open letter from Whedon, but today brings news that will make angels sing.
According to The LA Times, the Buffy reboot has hit a major roadblock and now may never happen. According to the newspaper, Anderson has been fired the movie is now stuck in limbo. Two sources have reported that the most recent draft turned in by the writer fell far short of expectations" and was eventually completely rejected. The script would have been the first that Anderson had gotten into development. The production company is now looking for a new writer for the project, but things don't look great as fan backlash really hurt PR for the project. Said one of the sources, "“[Anderson] came in with some great ideas and she had reinvented some of the lore and it was pretty cool but in the end there just wasn’t enough on the page." This is fantastic news. It was insane that Atlas Entertainment was trying to move forward with a Buffy project without Joss Whedon and now the project is in a state where it deserves to be. It's also kind of nice to know that people are actually listening to fan response. It almost makes it seem like Hollywood cares what we think. |
