Emma Watson May Star In Del Toro's Beauty And The Beast Movie
It seems like Beauty And the Beast is everywhere lately. The Disney film recently received a 3D make-over and a release back into theaters. And those of us keeping up with ABC’s Once Upon a Time saw the classic story touched on in last night’s episode, with Lost’s Emilie de Ravin playing the role of Belle.
What’s more, there’s not one but two Beauty and the Beast pilots in the works for potential TV series. And now it seems Warners is looking to put the fairy tale back on the big screen. Variety reports that Guillermo del Toro is set to direct Beast, with Bridget Jones’ Diary writer Andrew Davies set to pen the script.
Beast will need its Beauty, and who better to fill that role than the beautiful Emma Watson? Per Variety, the Harry Potter star is in final negotiations for the lead. This confirms comments made last year regarding the possibility of Watson and del Toro collaborating on a Beauty and the Beast film.
I think the last feature film take on Beauty and the Beast was the 2011 movie Beastly, starring Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer. While Beast has a very similar name, Variety references del Torro's version as a "period pic," which means he may be going the classic approach on this one rather than the modern day approach taken by Beastly director Daniel Barnz.
It'll definitely be interesting to hear casting news on this project, particularly on who will play the Beast. In the meantime, those looking to see classic storybook tales brought to life on the big screen have Mirror MIrror to look forward to next month, and Snow White and the Huntsman due out later this year.
