Expendables 2 On-Set Death Leads To Lawsuit
Back in October a tragedy occurred on the set of Simon West's The Expendables 2. While shooting outside of Sofia, Bulgaria with the second unit stunt team, a stuntman was killed and another one was injured during an explosion scene. Now the family of the dead stuntman is taking legal action against Millenium Entertainment, Nu Image and the film's stunt coordinator.
THR reports that Zong Yu Liu and Tan Mei Bai, parents of Kun Liu, the Chinese stuntman, are are filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the studio and Chad Stahelski, who served as both the stunt coordinator and second unit director on The Expendables 2 (and therefore was shooting the scene when the actor died). According to the lawsuit, which was filed today in Los Angeles, the parents believe that the people behind the film "recklessly organized, planned, set up, produced, directed, trained, coordinated and otherwise prepared for and implemented the stunt which involved the use of explosives and other similar ultra-hazardous activities in the rubber boat so as to cause an explosion, thereby injuring [Liu] and causing his death." The suit doesn't mention the number that the plaintiff is looking for in damages. None of the films stars or West were mentioned as defendants in the case.
The Expendables 2 stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Liam Hemsworth, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews. The film will be out in theaters on August 17th and to learn more about the movie head over to our Blend Film Database.
