Fight Smack In The Orphanage With Black Dynamite

By Katey Rich: 2009-09-15 15:13:53
Fight Smack In The Orphanage With Black Dynamite Last week I received in the mail a package containing a T-shirt that said, in giant block letters, "Fight Smack in the Orphanage." It was accompanied with a letter from the organization, plus stickers with the same logo, urging me to help them wean the youngsters off drugs.

I'm very glad that I had already seen the movie Black Dynamite, since otherwise I would have assumed that a bizarre charity organization had added my name to their list without my consent. And now everyone can share in the viral marketing silliness-- the new website Fight Smack in the Orphange shares success stories of children relieved from their drug problems, a store where you can buy your own "Fight Smack" T-shirt, and a surreal 70s-style PSA video in which puppets and clowns are joined by Black Dynamite himself to learn about the dangers of drugs-- and tickling. Check out that video for yourself below.

In case you haven't heard, Black Dynamite is a blaxploitation parody film starring MIchael Jai White as the titular badass who does indeed fight smack in the orphanage, and all kinds of other silly stuff. It's an elaborate viral campaign for a relatively small movie, but the site does give a good idea of the silly tone that Black Dynamite is going for. Check it out, and remember to always be fighting smack.
