Hero Blend #60: Looking At The Future Of The X-Men Franchise

Both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros./DC have announced impressive comic book movie slates through the years 2019 and 2020, respectively, but the X-Men franchise over at Fox doesn’t quite have the same kind of long-term plan mapped out. Tim Miller’s Deadpool, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, and the Gambit solo film starring Channing Tatum are all coming out next year, and the third and final Wolverine title is coming in 2017. But nothing else is currently on the books.

Of course, just because projects don’t have release dates doesn’t mean that they aren’t still in the works. Just this week we learned the news that Josh Boone has been hired to make a New Mutants movie, and a few years ago there was talk about the development of X-Force. And let’s also not forget the possibility that exists in coordination with what’s going on with Fantastic Four and the potential that exists for a future crossover. So while it may not be fully organized, there is an interesting future ahead for the franchise.

Joining me for this Hero Blend discussion about the future of the X-Men movies is the always-great Sean O’Connell from Cinema Blend, who brings some interesting thoughts about where these films can go. Check it out!
