New Hobbit Photo Shows Bilbo Baggins Worse For Wear
Martin Freeman’s on a serious roll. Murder mystery fans (like myself) thoroughly enjoy the work he’s doing as the befuddled Dr. Watson opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s masterful Sherlock Holmes on then BBC series. But virtually everyone else is eagerly anticipating Freeman’s performance as the world’s most famous Hobbit in Peter Jackson’s opening leg of a two-part marathon, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. A new photo of Bilbo Baggins in action hit the Web this weekend. We have it below (courtesy of the L.A. Times):
Our hero, played by Freeman, looks a little worse for wear in the official movie still, so I’m guessing that this is near the end of his journey … or, at least the end of the first part. A second Hobbit, subtitled There and Back Again, arrives in theaters a year later on Dec. 13, 2013. The big discussion point at the moment is where Jackson and screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will choose to split their Hobbit adaptation. They have plenty of experience shaping Tolkien’s stories, though, so you know figuring out where to create a worthy cliffhanger is the least of their issues.
I’m a little surprised how much of The Hobbit we’ve already seen, from that fantastic trailer to this – and other – production stills. We’ll be getting Hobbit news in drips and drabs, I’m sure, so for now, hi-res photos like this will have to tide over die hard fans. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on Dec. 14.
