Immortals Gifts Mortal Man With A March DVD Release
Hollywood has mined Greco-Roman mythology quite a few times over the years, with results ranging from the classic (Clash of the Titans), to the unnecessary (the Clash of the Titans remake), to the unfortunate (Troy, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief). While this past fall's Immortals didn't fare too well amongst the press, it still generated some positive buzz and has since taken in over $200 million worldwide. I still haven't seen it, but given Tarsem Singh's involvement as director and some cool-looking trailers, I'm looking forward to switching my brain off and enjoying it on Blu-ray. Now I have a date I can mark on my calendar for just that: Immortals is coming to 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 6th. (Actually, I better mark it down for a few weeks later; that's the same day Mass Effect 3 comes out...)
Based -- very loosely -- on the legend of Theseus, Immortals sets the legendary Greek hero (played by new Superman Henry Cavill) against the villainous King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who is trying to get his hands on a powerful magic bow that will allow him to "unleash war on both Heaven and Earth." From his beginnings as a lowly villager, Theseus rises in power and soon gathers an army of warriors determined to stop Hyperion's plans.
Both the Blu-ray and DVD versions include bonus features, which mostly include deleted or extended footage. For a movie this much about visuals, though, you'll probably want to spring for Blu-ray or a digital copy to get the best picture and sound you can. Here's the specs for the bonus features, and you can see the various cover art below.
