For a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs' books, the months leading up to Disney's release of John Carter were like watching a car stall out on the tracks in front of an oncoming train. Everyone saw the disaster coming, countless people pointed out the impending collision, but no one in power seemed willing to go lend a hand before it was too late. Disney's marketing campaign was alternately bland or confusing, never once putting together a trailer that would entice in anyone who wasn't already a fan of the source material. And that's a bloody shame, because while John Carter was far from a perfect movie, it was orders of magnitude better than you would expect based on the trailers. Hopefully some of those folks who -- understandably -- gave JC a pass in theaters will check it out when it hits Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand this June 5th.
Thankfully John Carter is getting more than a bare-bones release that you might expect from a film that underperformed. Both the Blu-ray and DVD versions include a handful of bonus features, including deleted scenes, bloopers, and a filmmaker's commentary. That should make a fascinating listen, especially if it was recorded in the aftermath of the movie's release. Maybe somebody on the track can explain why in the hell you would you drop the of Mars and saddle your multi-million-dollar movie with the incredibly generic title of John Carter? At any rate, here's the breakdown of the various versions of the release: Four-disc Combo Pack (3D BD + 2D BD + DVD + Digital Copy) Blu-ray Bonus Features:
