Joss Whedon Was Offered And Turned Down The Buffy Remake![]()
When word that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was moving forward broke last week, franchise creator Joss Whedon responded with a lot of consternation and disappointment. In his response, Whedon talked about how disappointed he was that Buffy was being put in someone else’s hands. Though he never came right out and said it, many fans assumed this meant that they were simply doing this without him, and that he hadn’t even been consulted. Nope. He was. You want him, they wanted him. He turned it down.
THR says he was approached last year by the franchise’s rights holders when they first began developing their Buffy remake. What they don’t say is what role they offered to let him have in it. Regardless, Joss said no and decided to do something else. Before you go off on Whedon, bear in mind that he never actually said that he wasn’t offered the chance to be a part of it. If you go back and read his response here with this information in mind, it becomes clear that he’s really just upset that it’s happening at all. He, like the rest of us, is simply tired of all the reboots and remakes. Whedon already did Buffy once, twice if you count the Kristy Swanson movie, and probably would prefer if his work people weren’t recycling his still fresh ideas for their personal gain. And if he feels that way, why would he want to help them do it? Of course, he wouldn’t. |
