People believe in Harvey Dent, but they definitely don't believe in Miranda Tate. I am, of course, referring to the character set to be played by Marion Cotillard in The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Since joining the cast fans have speculated that Miranda Tate is just an alias and that she'll actually be playing a much more villainous character: Talia al Ghul. If you can take Cotillard at her word, however, apparently that won't be the case.

MTV recently caught up with the actress on the red carpet for Steven Soderbergh's Contagion where she was asked if she simply relies on the script for her character in the film or if she goes back to the comics as well, to which she responded "Well, actually, it was not based off of a character in the comic." Then asked if she was telling the truth, she said, "Yes, I am." See if you can read Cotillard's poker face in the video below.

Considering she's a professional actress, I didn't believe that answer for a second, but here's the bigger point: do we really want to know if Miranda Tate is just an alias? Do we want to have one of the biggest surprises of the film ruined for us 10 months before the release date and while the movie is still in production? Can't we embrace the mystery a bit? I understand that there's a lot of anticipation for the final Batman film, but how about we make sure that we keep some details to anticipate?
