Theatrical popcorn buckets can really run the gamut from very cool to very weird, and I think The Odyssey’s insane Trojan horse popcorn bucket is a bit of both. I’m not sure how well it actually holds popcorn, and there was some conversation around the water cooler at work about one's hands potentially getting stuck. Regardless, there’s no doubt it’s a fabulous-looking movie souvenir. Since I’m a bit dubious about the bucket's usefulness, I was super happy to see one fan repurposed the Trojan horse in a completely epic manner.
Probably realizing the battle to stuff popcorn into that sucker was futile, an Odyssey fan took the mini version of Christopher Nolan’s giant, epic horse and turned it into a table lamp. No, I am not kidding. Yes, you need to see it to believe it. Take a look.

I mean, it looks awesome. It helps the room’s gallery wall is also nature-themed and the piece fits the room and its deep green color pretty well. Plus, a lamp is a great idea for displaying the bucket for years to come in a way that should be meaningful and makes sense for a room that’s not chock full of movie memorabilia. The fan, cartoonist Gabrielle Drolet, loved the bucket enough to want it out and in use, and she found a way to make it work. I love everything about the choice.
Which is why I was very surprised by some of the responses to the original post acting like this wasn’t the coolest freaking thing they’d ever seen someone do with a popcorn bucket. One person said “it’s for popcorn though,” and the original poster had to mention it’s “extremely inconvenient for popcorn” and also they weren’t planning on “devoting that much kitchen cupboard space for a horse.”
I get this, though. I’m not a person who is frequently drawn to movie souvenirs, but The Odyssey popcorn bucket was one that enticed me right away. (Although if you asked Nolan himself, he fanboyed out more over the IMAX bucket.) Now that I know I can make something awesome and practical out of it, I’m even more excited. Drolet also shared fan can turn anything hollow (like a popcorn bucket) into a lamp, so if you feel like turning your Yoshi bucket into a kids lamp or want to get a little Insidious with it, you can go for it.
If you want to keep your popcorn bucket collection intact, I totally get it. Some collections are meant to be display pieces. However, I do think the Nolan Trojan horse popcorn bucket is a spectacular exception to the average popcorn treasure, and I’d love to see more of them repurposed in fun, unique, and unexpected ways.
