Milla Jovovich Calls Out Summit Entertainment For Not Promoting The Three Musketeers
While the movie didn't screen early for critics, Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers opened at midnight last night and some reviewers bought tickets so that they could publish an opinion on the movie today. The result has been overwhelmingly negative, our own Katey Rich calling it, "the rare movie that's so dumb it's impossible to understand" (expect her full review later today). If the studio promoting the movie, Summit Entertainment, knew that they had a dud on their hands it's understandable that they wouldn't go out of their way to promote it with full force, but now one of the film's stars is calling them out for it.
Milla Jovovich, who not only stars in the film as Milady de Winter but is married to the director, recently took to her Twitter account to call out the studio for their lack of promotion. The actress started by calling out to fans asking if people actually knew about the film, but then brought down the hammer. "Are 'summit' promoting it as a family adventure movie?" Jovovich asked. "Or are they resting on their laurels from "twilight" n making no effort? Let me know!" She then continued her comments about the company, admonishing them for sweeping the movie "under the rug" and saying, "Shame on them. SHAME ON YOU 'SUMMIT'."
It's worth noting that The Three Musketeers is already out in many international markets (premiering in some territories as early as September 1st) and has already made $50 million overseas on an estimated $75 million budget. The question is where things go from here. Is this going to be a small moment of outrage and anger that will just go away, or can we expect a lawsuit to be announced in the coming weeks? A lot of that could depend on the movie's performance this weekend - where it's going up against Halloween power-house Paranormal Activity 3 - so we'll just have to wait and see.
