MOVIE NEWS
More Toy Story The worst has happened. Disney is trying to make more Toy Story movies without Pixar.
Disney’s animation department is fading and desperate. Their partnership with Pixar is ending. Without Pixar they are now in the unenviable position of coming late to the CGI movie game. Their traditional animation department all but abandoned, they’re scrabbling to grab anything they can in the way of CGI movie making. To date, they’ve only unveiled a horrible looking CGI Mickey Mouse character, which was soundly booed by just about everyone. So they’re stealing Pixar’s baby and trying to make it without them. They can do it too, since the terms of their deal with Pixar gives them full rights to all of Pixar’s characters created under their banner. That would include Buzz, Woody, Sully, Mike, that stupid ant from A Bug’s Life, and I guess even the characters from this Fall’s upcoming movie The Incredibles, Pixar’s last project with Disney. Pixar is moving on to create fantastic movies on their own, so Disney is going to squeeze the characters left behind for everything they’re worth. Soon to retire Disney Chief Michael Eisner said yesterday, “We're doing two 'Toy Stories' at once.” What will the movies look like? Will Disney be able to get the same voice talent to return without Pixar running the project? It sounds to me like a recipe for a huge flaming disaster that’ll not only garner nothing but more ill will for Disney but potentially mar the memory of Pixar’s great characters. ![]() Got questions? .
