Peter Berg Confirms A Script Is Being Written For Another Friday Night Lights Movie
We've seen it before: a show gets cancelled or ends before its cult following is ready to let go and rumors of a movie version begin to spring up everywhere. But for every Firefly/Serenity, you have shows like Arrested Development and Veronica Mars that always seem like they are just out of reach and never going to happen. Now Friday Night Lights is beginning its own campaign, according to Deadline, but the question is what will its fate be?
Speaking at the Television Critics Association promoting the new NBC series Prime Suspect, Peter Berg confirmed that a new movie version of Friday Night Lights is currently in development. Berg said that they are going to try and start production next year and that a script is already being written (the screenwriter, however, wasn't named). The film would bring back the cast of series, which included actors such as Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden, and Taylor Kitsch (who worked with Berg on the upcoming Battleship). The show, and movie it was based on, centered on a football team in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas. The show ran for five seasons, but finished its run in February. Said Berg about the project, " "We're very serious about trying to do it."
So just to make sure I have this straight, a new Friday Night Lights film would be a movie based on a television series based on a movie based on a book based on a true story. Pretty sure that's a first.
