Someone Is Claiming Beyonce And Marvel Will Join Forces, Which Would Destroy The Internet

There are some crazy rumors floating around out there, but if this one is true, the whole internet might just spontaneously burst into flames. It is being reported that Beyoncé, yes, that Beyoncé, is in talks with Disney and Marvel to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly as a member of the Avengers.

The news comes from The Daily Star, a tabloid not exactly known for the veracity of its reporting, so you’ll obviously want to take this with an even bigger grain of salt than you usually do for unsubstantiated casting rumors like this. Also, it just sounds…vague, not to mention insane and weird. But what the hell.

According to the report, the producers want to add the 33-year-old singer and actress in the hopes of attracting millions of new fans, because apparently The Avengers movies aren’t already popular enough. An unnamed Disney exec said:

We would love to have Beyoncé on board, almost certainly as a newcomer to the screen from Marvel’s existing catalogue of comic book characters.

The four potential characters thrown out in the article are Boom-Boom, Blink, Tigra, and Hawkeye. This is where things get even more problematic. Boom-Boom, a secret agent who uses her mind to create plasma bombs, and Blink, who can teleport, are both mutants, which presumably means their film rights are owned by Fox, not Marvel. It’s possible that they could do something like they did with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, simply not call them by their superhero names or refer to them as mutants, but it’s another hurdle.

Tigra is an interesting case because she started out as a non-super powered vigilante, but later became a crazy tiger-woman with super speed and strength who is the protector of the Cat People, a race created by sorcery in the Dark Ages. And no, they’re not referring to the Jeremy Renner Hawkeye, this is Kate Bishop, a young woman Clint Barton mentors to follow in his footsteps in general badassery. These two are at least associated with the Avengers—in the comics Hawkeye is one of the Young Avengers, emphasis on young. Of all of these, Tigra actually make the most sense, but we’ll wait and see if there is any substance to this report.

Of course the MCU would love to add Beyoncé to the roster. She hasn’t appeared in a movie since 2009’s Obsessed, but she has legions of devoted fans who will follow her anywhere, and the powers that be at Disney and Marvel are certainly not afraid of that. After having a baby with husband Jay-Z and focusing on motherhood and music for a while, Beyoncé reportedly wants to get the acting side of her career back on track, and joining the ever expanding Marvel movie world is certainly one way to accomplish that goal, crazy as it may sound. This is going to be a fun one to watch unfold, or unravel as the case may be.
