Stephen Colbert doesn’t do a lot of live-action acting – if you don’t count his overbearing right-wing persona that he has during The Colbert Report - but he has been known to lend his interesting voice to movies and television shows of the animated variety. Most recently he played President Hathaway in the 2009 DreamWorks Animation film Monsters vs. Aliens, but has also voiced characters on programs like The Venture Bros., The Simpsons, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law and American Dad. Now he’s once again ready to add to his resume as he has signed on to the cast of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

But he’s not the only one. According to THR, Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper, Ariel Winter and Stephen Tobolowsky are also on board. The actors join the already-cast Ty Burrell, who will be voicing the hyper-intelligent dog, and Max Charles, who plays his young friend. What’s more, DreamWorks is apparently so excited about the project that they have moved up the release date from March 14, 2014 to November 8, 2013. Rob Minkoff, who directed The Lion King and Stuart Little, is helming the project.

The trade reports that Colbert will be playing the film’s villain, a man named Paul Peterson, while Janney and Winter will be playing Peterson’s wife and daughter. They do not mention who Kemper or Tobolowsky will play.

With the light comes the dark, however. Because Mr. Peabody and Sherman is moving along so well, DreamWorks’ other major project, Me & My Shadow is being pushed back. That particular film will be mixing both CGI as well as hand-drawn animation. Commenting on the move, Bill Damaschke, the chief creative officer at DreamWorks Animation, said that the project will simply take longer to finish.
