Stockwell Will Pen A Wrinkle In Time![]()
There’s a new wrinkle with the feature adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic novel. According to The Hollywood Reporter Jeff Stockwell has been brought on board to pen the script for A Wrinkle in Time. Cary Granat’s Bedrock Studios will produce the story of Meg Murry, Charles Wallace Murry, and Calvin O’Keefe as they search through space and time for Meg and Charles’s scientist father.
Stockwell and Granat and both in familiar territory here. The former adapted Bridge to Terabithia and The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys while the latter produced Journey to the Center of the Earth. These movies, all based on popular children’s literature, were generally well-received by critics and fans alike. Like The Chronicles of Narnia, L’Engle’s classic resonates with a wide range of audience (hell, it’s been on bookshelves for thirty-eight years), and carries fairly overt Christian themes making a potentially dicey situation for the film’s writer. Stockwell has a sizeable task in front of him, but given a big budget, films like A Wrinkle in Time have a chance to be both visually stunning and emotionally connected to the viewer without losing much of the book’s power. |
