Stunning New Super 8 Poster Feels More Amblin Than Ever

Everything about Super 8 feels like classic Amblin Entertainment and, in fact, director JJ Abrams has already said he set out to make a classic Amblin Entertainment movie. Amblin, for the unfamiliar, is the studio responsible for Spielberg’s films and such classics as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, all the Indiana Jones movies, and Back to the Future, just to name a few.

Not only have the movie's trailers captured that classic Amblin feel, so have the movies posters. In particular this one which we showed you a few weeks ago, is a deliberate homage to the posters used to advertise Close Encounters. Now at the eleventh hour, with the movie about to hit theaters, Super 8 has a new poster, and it’s the most Spielbergian of them yet. Take a look:

Stunning work. If it looks familiar, it’s because it harkens back to a lot different classic posters. It’s not a direct homage like the Close Encounters theme poster, but more something that references different elements of other classic, movie one sheets. Here’s two that it seems to have in mind:
