The notorious smuggler turned politician has recently launched a series of attack ads aimed at raising the profile of the Calrissian/Chewbacca ticket while simultaneously slandering the great achievements of that Republican patriot Palpatine. Alderaan wasn't so much destroyed as moved out of the way. it was blocking traffic.
