Woman Makes $9,000 a Month Eating Food In Front of a Webcam
Are you having difficulty finding a job in this economy? Perhaps you should move to the other side of the world and eat meals in front of a computer. That’s what one South Korean woman does, making up to $9,000 a month from strangers watching her eat food.
Park Seo-yeon spends her days cooking elaborate meals and talking with fans, all in front of a camera. As the Huffington Post states, this new craze is called “Meok Bang” and "cures loneliness and hunger pangs.” Park makes that $9,000 a month through tips. According to Reuters, there are about 3,500 people in South Korea doing online programs such as this, some of it sponsored by restaurants.
“It feels as if I am eating that much food with her. I think that’s what the show is about,” one of Park’s fans told Reuters. “And probably it’s comforting for people who eat alone.”
There’s something kind of sweet about a program like this, giving lonely folks a chance to feel a little less lonely. After coming home from a hard day’s work, it’s nice to have a bit of company to commiserate and (virtually) eat with. I wonder if South Korean Captain America uses this.
Important question, though: Can American restaurants start implementing this program? I would happily sit in front of my computer and scarf down bowls of spaghetti for cash. Hell, I would do it for way less than $9,000 a month. Let’s go, Olive Garden! Sponsor me!
