Elisha Cuthbert Celebrates Engagement To Dion Phaneuf

A family restaurant in Prince Edward Island might seem like a strange place for a Hollywood celebrity to announce her engagement, but given she’s prepared to wed a Canadian hockey player, it makes a whole lot more sense. Elisha Cuthbert, long known for her love of the ice, accepted a marriage proposal over the weekend from her longtime boyfriend, Maple Leafs’ captain Dion Phaneuf, and two celebrated along with roughly forty close friends and family members on Sunday evening at New Glasgow Lobster.

Oddly enough, the news was actually first spilled on the restaurant’s Twitter account this morning, but in the hours since, US Weekly has gotten more specific details. Apparently, the evening’s festivities were a total surprise to the guests. They thought they were coming to enjoy a nice dinner, but when they arrived, Cuthbert was there with a “huge” ring on.

After a string of unsuccessful hockey player relationships, the Old School actress began dating Phaneuf in May of 2008. A few months later, the relationship generated big headlines after her ex-boyfriend Sean Avery made some offensive comments about it, but in the years since, the two have happily motored along without generating many second glances.

Pop Blend’s sincerest congratulations go out to Cuthbert and Phaneuf. They’re both extremely busy with their respective careers, but hopefully, the schedules will balance and they’ll be able to offer one another everything that could be asked for.
