There are two things in life Louis CK seems to love: complaining and trying out new ways to do things. While some other high profile comedians go on tour and give audiences the classic bits they already know by heart, he throws out all his existing material at the end of each year and starts over, looking for new details to complain about and new stories to make himself look like a jackass. Sometimes his new efforts work and sometimes they don’t, but each time, they’re always as fresh and exciting as his acclaimed FX show filled with uncomfortable moments, bizarre pacing and lots of laughs.

In an effort to combine his two passions, Louis has figured out a way to completely reinvent the existing comedic business model and throw up his middle finger at Ticketmaster and scalpers. For his upcoming tour, the comedian will be exclusively selling all tickets through his own website. Every seat will cost forty-five dollars including sales tax, and anyone caught trying to transfer the ticket to someone else for a higher price will have their seat revoked.

It’s a cool idea, and Louis used a few thousand words to explain the concept on his website yesterday. You can take a look at a small portion of those words below…
Doing things this way means I”m making less than I would have made if I did a standard tour, using the usual very excellent but expensive ticketing service. In some cities I’ve had to play smaller venues and do more shows. But I like doing more shows and about a year ago I reached a place where I realized I am making enough money doing comedy so the next thing that interested me is bringing your price down. Either way, I still make a whole lot more than my grandfather who taught math and raised chickens in Michigan.

I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with this. In fact, I don’t know a single person that likes Ticketmaster or appreciates paying their convenience charges. This whole thing strikes me as a guy genuinely trying to please his fans, and in this day and age, that’s a wonderful thing. It’s really no surprise fans are so easily able to relate to him.

To purchase tickets, read the whole entry or check out where he’ll be playing, you can head on over to his website here.
