Heavy D's Cause Of Death Revealed

Early last month, beloved frontman Heavy D passed away at the age of forty-four. He was found collapsed in his home and by the time he arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, there was nothing doctors could do. Because of his young age and the absence of obvious injuries, authorities scheduled an autopsy to figure out exactly what happened. Those results are finally in.

It seems Heavy D passed from pulmonary embolism and deep leg vein thrombosis. According to The Washington Post, his arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, as well as his weight and a long flight he took immediately prior to the collapse also played a role in his death.

On paper, it shouldn’t really matter how someone died. The passing itself is far more important. No specifics can change the final outcome, but still, there’s something nice about knowing Heavy D passed from natural causes rather than drugs or misadventure. The larger than life emcee was so full of love and positivity. I’d like to think he went out just as optimistic and joyful as he came in.

Pop Blend sends out its well wishes to Heavy D’s family, friends and all those touched by his life. His voice was truly original, and his message was a refreshing change of pace for the radio. In the hip hop star’s honor, here’s “Mr. Big Stuff”…
