Should Tom Cruise Have Posed For Pictures With Suri To Avoid Chase?

Tom Cruise has spent the past two-plus decades living under a microscope and in a sea of photographers, but ever since his wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce a few weeks ago, it’s been even crazier. The entire family has been almost continuously followed, and thousands of articles have been written dissecting even their smallest actions.

This morning, Cruise got a chance to spend some more time with his daughter Suri, but unfortunately, the two’s trip from a hotel to a helicopter wound up devolving into a chase scene not unlike ones seen in the actor’s movies. Red lights were reportedly run and speeds were increased, all in an effort to get Suri away from the glaring lens of the paparazzi.

I get the impulse. It’s not really fair for a little girl to have a camera stuck in her face everywhere she goes. Any good parent would want to keep his or her daughter away from that mess, but in this case, Cruise’s desire to protect may have endangered Suri more. Running a few red lights isn’t exactly safe, and the photographers supposedly didn’t have any qualms about running the lights themselves. In the end, they reportedly didn’t wind up with any great pictures, but maybe Cruise should have just given in and prevented the chase.
