Doctor Who Season 9 Trailer Is Weird, But Probably In A Good Way

The Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic-Con just let out a few minutes ago, and while the presentation included fans in Hall H getting to see the world premiere of the Season 9 trailer, now it has arrived online for your enjoyment as well. Check it out!

The official Doctor Who channel on YouTube launched this very special first look online this afternoon, and there’s quite a lot to take in. The show is apparently still in production, so there’s still a lot more to come, but we get to see a whole lotta clips in this footage… including our first look at the mysterious character who will be played by the great Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams:

”Doctor

It’s funny that Williams seems to be removing some kind of disguise in this footage – including a mask and helmet – because we still have very little information in regards to the character that the actress is playing. Given Peter Capaldi’s “You?” reaction, it’s clearly someone that the Doctor met a long time ago. I’ve been wondering if it were possible that she is playing a young Clara (just because there is a facial similarity between Williams and Jenna Coleman), but another theory that’s been floated is that she is playing Susan Foreman a.k.a. The Doctor’s granddaughter and first ever companion (played by Carole Anne Ford from 1963 to 1964). For what it’s worth, when Capaldi was asked during the Comic-Con panel which companion he would want to reunite with, he said “the Doctor’s granddaughter.”

As cool as Maisie Williams is, there’s a lot of other stuff to talk about in this Season 9 trailer. For example, is the Doctor going to have a showdown with some zombies in upcoming episodes?

”Doctor

And what’s up with this shady, heavy-drinking two-faced guy?

”Doctor

And what’s with all the characters who are missing their eyes?

”Doctor

Finally, what got the Doctor in the mood to rock out?

”Doctor

In all honesty, this trailer raises a lot more questions about the next season of Doctor Who than it answers, but we’re happy to wait and see it all unfold on screen. The wait for new episodes is almost over, with a premiere date set for September 19th, so get ready
