How I Met Your Film Noir MotherAuthor: David Wharton

CBS’s sitcom How I Met Your Mother is notorious for playing around with structure and style. Over the past four years, we’ve seen slap bets, threesome belts, and the efficacy of “The Naked Man.” One thing we haven’t seen, however, is what the show would look like as a film noir. Thankfully, CBS has remedied that oversight with the below video promoting the upcoming fifth season.
Starring Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, and the incomparable Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother is the ongoing, future-tense, Bob Saget-narrated chronicle of how Ted Mosby (Radnor) met the mother of his two kids. That’s the frame story, anyway, but while that lingering question is still at the heart of the series, the show is really just an excuse to spin tales of wacky happenings between young friends in New York City. Like Friends, but dirtier and with an experimental streak, it’s slickly written and has one of the most talented comedic casts around. Along with FX’s It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, it’s one of the two best sitcoms around these days. If you’re not already a fan, check it out when it returns on September 21st. And in the meantime? It was raining in the city. A hard rain… |
