The Simpsons are still on TV? It's sad. I'm sorry. In clinging to their hopes of cultural relevance they continue to stack up the guest voices, we previously reported the addition of Michael Cera's voice before letting almost all the many cats out of the giant animation domination guest star bag. Well, a very high-profile celebrity was left off that list, it seems Ms. Stephanie Germanotta will be adding her voice to the series' 23rd season.

EW spoke with the singer/icon during the recording sessions where Lady Gaga admits, "this is one of the coolest things I've ever done,' adding:
I make music, but I don't do voice-overs every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor.

This isn't the first time that Lady Gaga has made an appearance on the seminal animated show, in a previous episode of The Simpsons, Gaga showed up as Elton John's date to the Golden Globes but, unlike this 'true' first appearance, she did not provide the voice. And as far as this appearance goes, "'I play a little bit of a slut' quips Gaga. 'The apple doesn't fall far from my artistic tree.'"

EW also caught up with series creator/producer/deity Matt Groening who added that “since the very beginning, I've always wanted to have on the most iconic personalities of our time, and she's it [...] I'm sure we'll come up with something that is going to be as improbable as her usual wardrobe.

This means that Gaga will join Cera, Anthony Bourdain, Gordon Ramsay, Kiefer Sutherland, Aron Ralston, Jeremy Irons, Armie Hamer, Jane Lynch, Andy Garcia, Joan Rivers, and artist Shepard Fairey as the guest voices for the upcoming season.

Since her part in the episode, titled "Lisa Goes Gaga," is so closely linked with Lisa's character, Broadway.com talked to the voice behind Lisa, Yeardley Smith,
'This is extraordinary! I'm stunned that she has time in her schedule that she's coming to our studio to record,' Smith said. Previewing Gaga's storyline, the actress said, 'She's playing herself, and [The Simpsons writers] describe her as the happiest, most optimistic person in the world. She comes to Springfield to try to cheer up Lisa, but she can't.'

The "Lisa Goes Gaga" episode will air sometime in the spring of 2012 after the show returns to Sundays on Fox, September 25.
