Shawn Ryan's Last Resort Gets Greenlight For Pilot

It’s official – ABC has ordered a pilot for Shawn Ryan’s much talked about thriller Last Resort. We’ve been waiting on news since August, when the network inked a pilot deal with Ryan, and now the series has the greenlight to go ahead with the pilot according to a Variety report.

Ryan, best known for his work on The Shield and recently The Chicago Code, has been pulling together staff for the series. Most recently added to the roster is Casino Royale director Martin Campbell as reported last week. The pilot will of course have Ryan on board as writer and executive producer and the writer from Showtime’s short-lived but enjoyably quirky series Dead Like Me, Karl Gadjusek has signed on as well. The two have been adding more staff for the project, but there is no casting news available just yet. With the pilot ordered though we can expect to see word coming out on that front very soon.

Last Resort will be a thriller surrounding the fugitive crew of a U.S submarine who refuse to fire their missiles and then escape pursuit and establish their own society – the world’s smallest nation with nuclear capability – among the natives of a remote outpost. Beyond that, plot details are a little hazy, but the pilot does seem to have promise. With Gadjusek on to write we can expect some interesting storylines, as any fan of Dead Like Me, as I happen to be, can attest to. This will definitely be a show worth checking out, if the pilot goes to series.
