Dirt Is Gonna Cost You

Buena Vista has announced the release of the first season of “Dirt” will be coming to DVD on December 11th. The show, which airs on Fox’s cable network FX, is produced by Disney’s Touchstone Television and Courtney and David Arquette’s production label Coquette Productions. Apparently that many hands in the pot is going to be passed to the consumer for the DVD release of the witty show about tabloid entertainment, because this set is carrying a cost that rivals HBO’s overpriced DVD sets.

The first season of the set consists of 13 hourlong episodes, which will be spread over 4 discs. The suggested retail price for the set? $59.99. Understand, these are only 13 episodes, which are going to run you the same suggested price as BV’s sets for seasons of “Lost” or “Desperate Housewives,” which have almost twice as many episodes and carry a lot more accolades.

Along with the episodes, you get a couple of bonus features, but I can’t say the extras necessarily balance out a set that costs just as much as full seasons from the same studio, with half the content. Take a look and judge for yourself.

“Dirt” Season one hits DVD December 11th, reportedly just in time to catch up on the show before the second season comes to FX.
