A Modern Twist On A Classic Novel

Are you a fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice? If you are, you might want to think about picking up a copy of the British miniseries Lost in Austen when it hits DVD, courtesy of Image Entertainment, April 14th.

Jemima Rooper stars as Amanda Price, a huge Austen fan who finds Pride and Prejudice’s main character, Elizabeth Bennet (Gemma Arterton) hanging out in her bathroom. She discovers Elizabeth has arrived in her loo via a hidden doorway. Amanda steps through this portal and ends up in Bennet’s house at the beginning of the novel. Amanda must do all she can to make sure that the novel stays on track while Elizabeth is stuck in 21st century London.

I was never much of a reader in school, which is probably why Pride and Prejudice left a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn’t until I began reading in my free time, sans teacher pressure, that I was truly able to appreciate the books I read. Although I don’t have much of an interest in reading the novel again, I am curious about this DVD. But I must admit, I would have no desire to pick up a copy of Lost in Austen if it weren’t for the fact that the series is set to be made into a movie by Sony Pictures. According to the Guardian, the show’s writer, Guy Andrews, is working on a script and Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is set to produce.

For those of you who’d like to prep for the film with me, you can enjoy all four episodes as well as some behind-the-scenes footage for $27.98.
