The MMO third-person shooter world of Defiance is already pretty dang big. There's a large map to explore, loads of missions and side quests to undertake and lots of options for co-op and competitive multiplayers to have a good time. It looks like the game is about ready to get just a little bit bigger, though, as Executive Producer Nathan Richardsson announces details on the first of five DLC updates planned for this year.
In case you've missed out on the alien-infused action up until this point, the Defiance game actually ties-in with a new show on Syfy bearing the same name. The show has been doing pretty well, it turns out, and has been picked up for a second season. That's also great news for fans of the game, as the two entities have a sort of symbiotic relationship in which characters, references and even stories can cross over.
While in-game content for season two is still a bit too far off to talk about, Richardsson has at least started shelling out details on the season one DLC at the Defiance website.
“Every time we do DLC, of which we have five planned this year, we have a free component, a paid component and a store update,” Richardsson said. “The free part is for everyone. We want people to be playing with their friends; we don't like to isolate players.
Richardsson goes on to detail the tentative release line-up for the first batch of DLC, which he is currently code naming “Enter the Castithan.” If you're one of the 1 million players currently tearing it up in the Badlands, you'll want to check this out the full list on the linked community post. As a brief rundown, the $10 paid DLC will include the playable Castithan race, new story missions and a Battle Arena game mode, some sweet new gear and more. The free portion of the update will include access to a lot of that gear as rewards for in-game missions, a new Sieges game mode, new game content, Duels, etc. For those willing to drop some change in the in-game store, additional updates include new mods, lockboxes, vehicles and the ability to redesign your character in part or in whole.
