Subscribe To GTA 5 Online Independence Day DLC Weekend Starts Today Updates
Rockstar Games wants you to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend in GTA Online. They're launching a special event today in celebration of the holiday and the release of the Independence Day Special DLC that arrived earlier this week.

Players who log in this weekend will find a new "Independence Day Special Event" playlist. This playlist includes the latest Rockstar-created Jobs, some of which feature the new vehicles added in the Independence Day DLC. The Playlist will offer double GTA $ and double RP rewards to participating players throughout the weekend. You can find the Playlist at Online > Playlists > Rockstar Created in the start menu for GTA Online.

Merryweather Security is offering a 75% discount on airstrikes throughout the weekend as well. You can call in an airstrike by calling Merryweather through your phone and then specifying the target with a flare. This is usually an expensive service ($12500) so the discount will go a long way.

If you want to cause even more carnage, head to Ammu-Nation. The weapon stores have cut the price on RPGs, Miniguns and Grenade Launchers this weekend by 25%.

Pegasus Lifestyle Management is also offering a discount. You can ask for delivery of any oversized vehicle for free. This even includes the Liberator monster truck, the car-crushing tribute to America added in the Independence Day Special.

Rockstar wants you to take plenty of Snapmatic photos during your exploits this weekend. They're offering $1 million in GTA$ and an AMERICA license plate to players with the best photos that commemorate Independence Day. You can enter your pictures for a chance to win by logging into the Social Club and tagging them as #INDEPENDENCEDAY by Sunday.

The developers will celebrate the start of the Independence Day Special weekend at 2 PM Eastern today with a "rematch" between America and Great Britain. Players from each country will slug it out in GTA Online matches broadcast over YouTube and Twitch.

"The US team will be represented by special guest Lui Calibre playing alongside our own Rockstar NYC devs - while the UK team will be represented by the one and only GTA V O'Clock Crew playing live from London - all hosted and commentated by Lazlow and the rest of the Rockstar Broadcast studio team," the developers explain on Rockstar Newswire. "We'll be battling through a Crew Head to Head playlist featuring all new Jobs from The Independence Day Special."

The final component of the Independence Day DLC weekend is a sweepstakes. Rockstar will give away five prize packs containing the GTAIV Aluminum Bat, Patriot Beer cup, GTA IV foam finger, Statue of Happiness figurine, GTA V Los Santos Lifeguard tee and Vice City beach ball. Ten other players will get a t-shirt and stickers. You can enter for a chance to win these prizes at Rockstar Social Club.

The Independence Day Special launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 this Tuesday. The free update includes two new weapons, seven new properties, a mullet haircut and dozens of patriotic clothing options. This DLC also allows players to buy fireworks from Ammu-Nation and set it off throughout the city. I'm sure that many players would've preferred co-op heists instead but I guess we'll have to wait until the August update for that content.
