Several new characters have made it onto the roster of NetherRealm Studios' upcoming fighting game, Injustice 2. The characters were introduced into the second part of the story trailer that depicts the rise of Superman's authoritarian regime, and Batman's vigilante rebellion.

The "Shattered Alliances Part 2" story trailer was posted up over on the official Injustice 2 YouTube channel. It features two full minutes of gameplay, while also introducing gamers to some long-awaited fan favorites that many gamers within the community have been pining for, including Captain Cold, Green Lantern, and the Green Arrow.

The trailer starts by explaining how Superman is no longer the hero that we all thought, and he's now been placed firmly behind bars... with a red sun for good measure. This comes after the events of the original Injustice: Gods Among Us, where Superman began killing criminals after he was tricked into killing Lois Lane and his unborn son. Superman started with the Joker and it escalated from there.

Batman, meanwhile, began organizing a group to combat Superman and his authoritarian regime. They managed to defeat Superman and lock him away with the help of heroes from an alternate Earth.

Injustice 2 seems to pick up where the first game left off, with Superman still intent on revitalizing his old regime and preventing criminals from damaging and destroying the world. Batman and Flash ruminate on whether or not they should trust Green Lantern after he joined Superman's side in the last game.

In addition to revealing Green Lantern, we also get to see brief glimpses of one of Flash's nemesis, Captain Cold, along with the Reverse Flash, both of whom gained a lot of popularity in recent times thanks to the CW television show The Flash.

Captain Cold is only showcased in a blink-and-you-missed-it-moment, however, we do get to see more of Cyborg and a little bit of the Green Arrow. Sadly, Green Arrow doesn't do much in the latest Injustice 2 video other than slide in and shoot his bow.

Even still, the graphics and story for this game really seem to be top notch. NetherRealm appears to be aiming to knock it out the box when it comes to telling a gripping story. It's still hard to tell what's really going to happen, but it looks like Superman and Kara will have a falling out (or maybe?) Superman and Dr. Fate will cross paths, and Batman will be recruiting more multi-verse characters. I'm curious where Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd fit into the mix?

Anyway, there's still plenty of time before Injustice 2 launches on May 16th this spring for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, so I'm sure we'll get to see some spotlights on a few of the lesser showcased characters such as Green Arrow and Captain Cold. I really want to see what they do for the ice-oriented villain, because it would seem like he might be a little outclassed compared to some of the other characters on the roster.
