We've learned this weekend that Fable Fortune, the upcoming digital collectible card game set in the Fable universe, has been delayed. Originally expected to arrive this Tuesday, July 11, duelists will have to wait just a little bit longer to finally get their hands on the game. The new launch date has only been pushed back a couple of weeks, now arriving on July 25.
When games get delayed, there's usually enough extra time tacked on to elicit a loud, unanimous groan from the fans who were eagerly anticipating its arrival. With Fable Fortune, we figure folks will be able to handle a couple of extra weeks without breaking a sweat. Plus, it turns out the delay wasn't in order to squash bugs or because the test servers were crashing or anything like that. According to a recent report from IGN, the delay is being pinned on "an administration hiccup," which we figure means Gary in Accounting accidentally shredded an important document rather than faxing it. Thanks, Gary!
Seriously, though, it's nice to know that there was some sort of snafu rather than technical issues that needed to be worked out and, honestly, it's not like this year hasn't been absolutely crammed with enough games to keep us busy for an extra fortnight.
For those of you who have been out of the loop, yes, there is a new Fable game coming out. The popular RPG world from yesteryear seemed to be on its way out the door with the cancellation of Fable Legends and the disbanding of Lionhead Studios, but games like Fable Fortune are keeping it alive and well.
And it seems like this game's devs aren't the only ones interested in seeing Fable survive. Fable Fortune, which takes the game's universe and plugs it into a CCG similar to, say, Hearthstone, began life as a Kickstarter project that was kind of being kept under wraps. Someone with money bags took notice, though, and the project came off of crowdfunding once additional funding was arranged.
Everything was going dandy, the game was set to launch this week, then apparently Gary did his thing and now we've all got to wait a couple of extra weeks before getting the full version of the free-to-play title. As a reminder, Fable Fortune will be an Xbox One and PC title with crossplay capabilities. It sounds like the team still had things in order to launch on one of those platforms come July 11 but, with a desire to launch on both at the same time, both the Xbox One and PC versions are now coming at the end of the month.
The game certainly looks fun and we like that the cards become 3D models on the battlefield. If anyone has gotten in some early gameplay with Fable Fortune, be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.
