Microsoft unveiled the four free games that will be available through the Games With Gold program for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The four games are pretty big, and gamers looking to expand their library with some noteworthy Xbox 360 and Xbox One games will be excited for Games With Gold in September, 2017.
The news rolled out recently over on the official Xbox channel, where Major Nelson revealed that gamers will be able to get their hands on the following games throughout the month of September.
Xbox One: Forza Motorsport 5 -- September 1st - 30th
Xbox One: Oxenfree -- September 16th - October 15th
Xbox 360: Hyrdro Thunder Hurricane -- September 1st - September 15th
Xbox 360: Battlefield 3 -- September 16th - September 30th
As you can see, Microsoft definitely pulled out some of its big guns for Xbox 360 and Xbox One gamers. All four games give you a huge variety of content and enough to keep you busy all throughout September. Xbox One owners also have the benefit of playing the Xbox 360 games via backwards compatibility support.
Forza Motorsport 5 was one of the Xbox One's launch titles from back in 2013. The game didn't quite have as much content as, say, Forza Motorsport 3 or Forza Motorsport 4, but the team did manage to bump up the resolution to 1080p and 60 frames per second, so there's that. A lot of people sort of prefer the more relaxed and casual atmosphere of the Forza Horizon series, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a free version of Forza Motorsport 5. What's more is that it comes with a free Top Gear DLC pack.
Oxenfree is a supernatural, sci-fi, point-and-click, indie adventure game. If you thought the description was a mouthful, just wait until you play the game. Oxenfree utilizes a unique dialogue system where characters can interrupt each other, and transition between conversations seamlessly so it sounds like you're listening to real teenagers have a conversation, and all without the awkward pauses and segues featured in Life is Strange. There's also a time-altering element to the game where players will travel through the time-space continuum in order to survive and attempt to get out of a hairy situation alive after a late night trip to an island ended up turning into a fight for survival.
Hydro Thunder Hurricane is a classically made 3D racing game for the Xbox 360. This gem from Vector Unit came out back in 2010 and was throwback to classic arcade racers from yesteryear. Much like Mario Kart players could pick up powerups and attempt to balance out the odds if other players or the CPU were just racing those corners a tinge better than you. Vector Unit is also renown for paying a lot of love to local multiplayer in its games and Hydro Thunder Hurricane was no different. The boat racing title featured both single-player campaigns and local split-screen for up to four players. It's one of those games you play on a lazy Saturday afternoon with a few friends and a couple of beers.
Last but certainly not least is DICE's 2011 masterpiece Battlefield 3. This game set the world ablaze with its amazing graphics, cinematic-quality gameplay and the next evolution of Levolution. The Frostbite-powered first-person shooter showed gamers what the tech was capable of and forced other developers to step up their game. Well, you'll be able to experience this groundbreaking FPS for free during September.
Remember, you will need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription if you want to get in on the games.
