It appears that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't the only place where Thanos is wreaking havoc and causing chaos. Even in Epic Games' own Fortnite there appears to be some disparity as to what's to become of the Marvel super-villain who has been added to the Battle Royale third-person shooter. Some tweaks are reportedly still being made to the character in the popular gaming franchise, and those changes seem as if they will have pros and cons for the character.
According to a post on Reddit, it appears as if Epic is still tweaking Thanos, yes, the giant purple titan from Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War. Reportedly, the developers have explained in the changelog that Thanos is actually getting a power buff so that he'll be even stronger, but this is being balanced with the fact that he'll also be easier to kill. The developers also revealed that the mad titan's beam has increased from 12 to 20 base damage, and that his punch damage has also been given a 20% buff as well. To compensate for his power scaling, Epic Games decided to balance this by reducing his health from 800 to 500.
This comes after those behind the game initially added Thanos to Fortnite, only to have people complain about the character being way too overpowered. To placate the complaints, the team has seemingly decided to nerf some of Thanos' abilities in order for him to fit in with the rest of the gameplay universe in a far more fair and balanced manner. Basically, players are capable of being able to play as Thanos if they can get their hand on the legendary Infinity Gauntlet, turning them into a devastating wrecking machine, just like in Avengers: Infinity War.
After making Thanos too strong, and then making him weaker, and now making him stronger again, it's a little hard to tell what sort of fine balance Epic Games is gunning for, but it appears as if the team will keep trying to find that sweet spot while the limited time crossover event with Marvel's Avengers will be taking place.
Of course, the update wasn't just all about Thanos. There have been some other changes made to Fortnite as well, including with some changes to the general gameplay modes, such as a reduction in the height of the air bus that players drop in from, while the initial storm circle has been increased. The storm will do reduced damage during the early first half of the game now, and the initial spawn time for the Infinity Gauntlet has been modified as well.
For players in need of medical supplies and shields, Epic decided to increase the spawn rate of med kits, chug jugs, and big shields, meaning that there should be more frequency in being able to acquire these items.
What's more is that two items have actually been removed from the game for the time being, the bandages and slurp juice. The exact issues weren't outlined as to why these two items had to be removed from Fortnite, but for now it appears as if they won't be spawning into the arenas.
Funnily enough, people actually seem a little more awestruck that Thanos is even in the game more than they seem to be angry about him being overpowered, which I suppose is a great reaction to have from the Fortnite community.
