Blizzard Entertainment rolled out the official anniversary update for Overwatch across Battle.net for PC gamers, across Xbox Live for Xbox One owners, and across the PlayStation Network for PS4 players. Now that the event is live, here's everything you need to know about it.
The event features 190 anniversary items to unlock, collect, and acquire over the two week period, including all new legendary skins for some of the characters on the roster. Some of the skins include all new getups for Tracer, Lucio and Soldier 76; a Sherlock Holmes inspired outfit for McCree, a mystical tree skin for Orisa, and a pirate outfit for Junkrat. There's a Zantanna inspired outfit for Symmetra, along with a tuxedo outfit for Doomfist.
In addition to the all new skins available for the Overwatch cast, there are also a number of items that will be available through the anniversary loot boxes, including skins, emotes, and dances from previous seasonal events, including the Uprising, Halloween, and Christmas events. There's also the all new Petra map, which Blizzard recently revealed.
In addition to the new skins -- which total out to 22 -- there are also a ton of new emotes and dancing animations as well. There are 27 new dancing emotes that you can unlock for the characters. In fact, there are so many different items, emotes, skins and other specialties to unlock that you'll likely find yourself spending each and every day just unlocking all new stuff that you may have missed out on when the original events were available for Overwatch.
Believe it or not, the game is now officially two years old, and Blizzard Entertainment has managed to retain a strong community while also growing the game's eSports base by starting up the Overwatch League earlier this year, which features an international stable of unique teams and players that compete for glory, standing and cash heading into the playoffs this year.
Blizzard is also trying to turn eSports into a mainstream affair with the league, constantly moving the market forward to reach casual audiences.
But, in the meantime, Blizzard is focused on the second anniversary event for Overwatch, which features 50 different anniversary loot box bundles for players to uncover.
Of course, you'll need to keep in mind that the anniversary loot boxes are only going to be around for a limited time with the anniversary event. So, you'll have to buy fast and buy aplenty if you want to gather up everything that Blizzard has to offer for the event just until June 11th gets here.
Given all the new skins that have been made available in the game, there's likely going to be something there for everyone. So, no matter who you play you'll be able to unlock a skin for your favorite character on the expansive roster of diverse Overwatch combatants.
