Remedy Entertainment could announce the sequel to Alan Wake soon. The Finland-based developer is teasing a big announcement later this year.
"The new year starts with good news: Alan Wake Franchise is -75% on Steam. Even greater Remedy news to come in 2013..," read a post on the Alan Wake Facebook page.
The Alan Wake series stars a novelist of the same name. Wake finds the events of his writings playing out in the real world. The dark thriller story is coupled with third-person shooter gameplay. Wake uses a flashlight to weaken the shadowy enemies attacking him, and then finishes them off with conventional weapons.
Alan Wake debuted on the Xbox 360 in 2010 and was then ported to the PC in 2012. As of March 2012, Wake sold two million copies. The game was successful enough for Remedy to follow it up with Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a standalone Xbox Live Arcade adventure. Remedy suggested last year that they weren't done with the franchise quite yet.
"Alan Wake is definitely very close to our hearts. It's our IP - we own it. It's not something that we're going to forget very easily," Remedy's Oskari Häkkinen said in March.
Last spring Remedy began hiring for "an unannounced project targeted at future generation consoles." Alan Wake 2 - or whatever the next game is called - might not be on Xbox 360, then. It's possible that it'll be released on the next Xbox or PlayStation. Both of those next-gen consoles are expected to arrive by the end of this year.
