What if all the cutscenes from Remedy's Alan Wake were put together to make up an entire movie? Well, a new fan-made video was made where all the cutscenes were chopped and cut together for an hour long movie. The results? Alan Wake: The Cutscene Movie.
It's pretty amazing that games have evolved enough where the quality of the cutscenes can be re-interpreted or used to fill out enough time to make up for a movie. Alternatively, one could view it as games having very lengthy cutscenes that fill out enough time to make up for a movie.
The scenes spliced together below are done quite well, I don't know if it's as good as the Uncharted movie trilogy, but it gets it done nonetheless. Check it out below, courtesy of YouTube user Linehares 941. It should go without warning that there are obvious spoilers ahead, so...if you haven't played the game, you probably should watch with caution.
I'm always curious how many people watch these movie-length cut-scenes and then decide “Hey, that was pretty cool...I'm gonna buy the game.” There's really no way to tell. Also, technically, for people who didn't buy the game it's almost equivalent to pirating the game since you're basically getting a full rundown of what the game is about, its story, dynamics and play functions without putting a dime into it. Then again, there are YouTube commercials, so I guess that makes up for it.
Alan Wake is currently available for the Xbox 360 and PC. If the movie put you in the mood to watch more cut-scene based movies, feel free to check out the Uncharted trilogy.
