A new trailer has been released for the upcoming season of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's Exo Zombies. Yes, the game is evolving the old zombie trope with faster, stronger, and more dangerous zombies – zombies wearing the most expensive exo-suits an amoral corporation could possibly buy. Check it out below.
John Malkovich – yeah, that's a really strange casting call right there – appears to provide voice-over for the minute-long trailer. I've never really pegged Malkovich for the Call of Duty type, but he did play a pretty mean badass in the movie Ripley's Game and it's not like the character Ripley would be ill-suited for fighting exo-zombies. I think he would pretty well against them, actually.
The rest of the cast includes notable names such as Bill Paxton, Rose McGowan, and Jon Bernthal. First of all, Bill Paxton is long, long, long overdue for making an appearance in the Call of Duty universe. Although, it would have seemed more appropriate he appear in a season of alien-themed DLC. Would that not have been a cool throwback nod or what?
Additionally, it makes complete sense that Rose McGowan would make the cut. McGowan is a zombie-survivor alum from Robert Rodriguez' Planet Terror. I mean, she had a freaking machine gun for a leg... why wouldn't you want that person helping you fight exo-zombies?
Last but certainly not least is Walking Dead's Shane... oops, I mean Jon Bernthal. Jon is no stranger to zombies or video games. He's a bona fide zombie killer from the television show The Walking Dead and he's grimaced his way through Team Bondi and Rockstar Games' L.A. Noire. This is all too familiar territory for Bernthal.
Like previous zombie-DLC outings, Activision and Sledgehammer have filled the DLC to the brim with celebrities. I don't really understand their method in picking who they want in the game or why, but I doubt fans of the actors will complain.
I don't think this trumps Activision's previous celebrity-filled DLC called the Uprising, which featured a map called “Mob of the Dead”. The DLC starred Hollywood heavyweights from the gangster genre, such as Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, and Michael Madsen. It was pretty badass to say the least.
As for the DLC itself... I don't know how to feel about it right now. The concept of overhauling zombies by making them mini mecha-zombies seems like a good way of attracting both mecha fans and zombie fans.
Based on the small clip, we get to see that the exo-zombies can jump higher and I'm going to assume that they can hit harder and run faster. I'm sure we'll learn more about the exo-zombies and the rest of the season's DLC soon enough. You can learn more about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which is available for home consoles and PC right now, by paying a kind visit to the official website.
