Namco Bandai released the E3 trailer for Dark Souls today. It confirms that the action RPG will be arriving on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in October.
From Software intends for Dark Souls to be a spiritual successor to PS3 exclusive Demon's Souls. Players must traverse dungeons filled with monsters and traps that can bring them swift death. You can jump into other players' games and either help or ambush them. More subtle online features include the ability to leave helpful notes and the appearance of "ghosts" in areas where other players have recently died.
Dark Souls will hit North America on October 4th. The European launch will occur on the 7th. The game's set to debut in Japan in September so Western gamers will have the added advantage of plenty of reviews to read before the game arrives.
If you decide to pre-order the game, you'll be automatically upgraded to the Collector's Edition. The $69.99 CE comes with an art book and soundtrack, among other extras.
