Blizzard is bringing Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4 in August. The expansion pack will be bundled with the full game in a package called Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition.
Diablo 3 has already been available on PS3 and Xbox 360 since last fall. However, the release of Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition on PS4 and Xbox One will be the first time the game hits those consoles.
Reaper of Souls, released on PC and Mac in March, introduces a fifth act to the campaign. When players have finished this new chapter, they can undertake randomized quests and dungeons in Adventure Mode. The expansion also introduces a new Crusader class that smites enemies with holy magic.
The console versions of Diablo 3 feature redesigned interfaces more suited to controllers. Players can team up with three friends via split-screen or online multiplayer. Players won't need a persistent Internet connection while playing alone - a chance perhaps driven by the controversy over the always-online requirement for PC and Mac.
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition introduces several new social features as well. An Apprentice mode gives low-level characters a boost when playing with high-level characters to make co-op easier for friends. Players can also mail unwanted items to each other. Every time one player gets a Legendary, their friends have a chance at getting one as well.
The Ultimate Evil Edition will be released on consoles on August 19th. It'll cost $59.99 on PS4 and Xbox One. PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers will have to pay $39.99, the price of the expansion itself on PC and Mac.
It's a bit odd that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners don't have the opportunity to buy Reaper of Souls as DLC for their existing copies of Diablo 3. Nonetheless, Blizzard is making it easy for their gamers to continue their adventures. Xbox 360 owners can transfer their Diablo 3 characters to the Xbox One or Xbox 360 versions of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition. PS3 owners have the option of transferring characters to PS3 or PS4.
Pre-order customers for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition will unlock an in-game item called the Infernal Pauldrons, presumably featuring the same art style as the Infernal Helm. These Pauldrons can be worn at level 1 and give boosts to Health, Life regeneration, and Cooldown Reduction. The item will be unlocked by a key included with the game.
