God of War: Ascension will introduce online multiplayer to the hack-and-slash series for the first time. Sony released the first information on this team-based action today along with images and a video.

No, you don't play as Kratos and recolored twins. Instead, players take on the role of followers of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades or Ares. Each God offers different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Essentially, you're choosing a character class. One God will make you a proficient healer, another will make you better at melee attacks, and so forth. The multiplayer has a progression system as well so you can upgrade your abilities and strengthen your custom equipment.

Players will engage in four-on-four arena battles. Coordinating with your teammates is key to beating the other team. You'll also have to worry about A.I. enemies stalking the battlefield, including a one-eyed Titan that loomed above.

The objective in the map revealed today was to capture a certain point on the map. Once the point is captured, the Titan is snared with chains. The team that captured the point is given a Javelin of Olympus and allowed to take on the Titan directly. While his teammates weakened the massive beast, a player ran up and jabbed him in the face with the Javelin.

According to Games Radar's preview, there will be seven multiplayer maps in total. These other maps will feature different types of objectives to fulfill. Regardless of the exact details, expect a lot of gore.
