We haven't even reached the time of year where GOTY nominations start rolling out but it appears that there is already plans to bring a Game of the Year Edition of Injustice: Gods Among Us to home consoles and PC, potentially later this year, if not early next year.
DSO Gaming managed to catch some striking images of the listing for the GOTY edition of Injustice on the French version of Amazon. The listing shows the game as being made available during November later this year. However, that doesn't make a lot of sense given that the Spike Video Game Awards don't take place until December... so, how does a game get a GOTY edition before it receives an actual GOTY award? Anyway, you can check out the listing below.
My take on the image is that the November, 2013 release window is just a placeholder, similar to how some of the listings for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on Amazon and GameStop have December 31st release dates, which we all know would be the most asinine release date for a new console in the world, especially considering that Sony and Microsoft would want to capitalize on Black Friday like Anna Nicole Smith capitalized on J. Howard Marshall. All is fair in love and console wars.
Realistically, the GOTY edition for Injustice probably won't be available until sometime in early 2014 as it gives Netherrealm the remainder of 2013 to milk the game with additional DLC and character content. That's not to mention that gamers have been clamoring for DC and Netherrealm to add more lesser-known characters from the comic books, including Killer Croc and Zatanna, for starters.
The real news, however, is if this GOTY edition will actually make it to PC. While it would be easy for the console peasants to nag and throw dirty potato sacks at the PC nobles for not getting a lot of console-centric games, let's not forget that High Voltage, Netherrealm and Warner Bros., did eventually port over Mortal Kombat for PC. So the likelihood of seeing Injustice make the leap isn't so far fetched.
Now, whether or not the GOTY edition is in the works isn't really up for debate, but speculation does arise as to whether or not the PC version will launch in tandem with the console renditions? Given the usual asymmetrical release of games on console and PC, I would imagine that the console versions of the GOTY edition of Injustice might arrive in early 2014, with a second quarter release for PC.
If you don't really care about all that good stuff and you just want to play a super hero fighting game featuring your favorite heroes and villains, you can do so right now by picking the game up for the Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii U. Additional DLC has also recently arrived for the game, including the Man of Steel update.
