Amidst announcements of a new Killzone and inFamous game, as well as looks at Bungie's Destiny project, perhaps the most overlooked offering from Sony's PlayStation 4 press conference was the first game that was actually announced for the upcoming console: Knack.
Every new console needs a new mascot and game director Mark Cerny's latest creation might provide the PlayStation 4's lead candidate.
“Over the years I've been involved in a number of character-based action titles—Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank— and with the gameplay of Knack, we're trying to focus on the essential fun behind the action/platformer gameplay,” said Cerny in a recent PlayStation Blog post. “I'm hoping that we can make something that excites those that played the classic games back in the day, as well as something that attracts new fans to the genre.”
Looking more like a Dreamworks film than a video game in its debut trailer, Knack certainly looks to have all of the necessary components to craft a winner. There's an adorable main protagonist, a close-knit group of friends that care for his safety despite the dangerous work he must do and, of course, loads of enemy monsters to pummel. The world is under attack by goblins and, as is frequently the case in these types of stories, Knack might soon discover that the green-skinned invaders aren't the worst enemy he'll have to face.
