Wizards of the Coast is offering a nice little bonus for returning players of Magic: The Gathering, granting access to a free deck of cards in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013

Joystiq's David Hinkle noticed the digital gift when first booting up his review copy of the latest duel-a-thon for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Having played Duels 2012 Hinkle was quickly alerted to his special reward with a pop-up message offering a free deck of cards or the ability to turn one of his other decks foil. So, basically, your options are 30 cards you'd normally have to unlock in the game or an aesthetic upgrade to some of your existing cards.

In Magic, players take on the role of powerful wizards, building decks of cards that represent the lands they draw power from, their numerous spells and abilities, as well as the monsters they may summon to do the fighting for them. It's like a no-wacky-haired, less over-the-top, non-ridiculous version of the popular card battling game, Yu-Gi-Oh!. You're probably a little peeved about the lack of the wacky hair, though.

Still, like most collectable card games, half of the fun comes in discovering new cards and using them to build even better decks. That makes this little thank you gift for continued support all the more awesome.

Foil cards are nice for showing off in physical play but, in a digital format, I wouldn't bat an eye if my opponents' cards were shooting off fireworks every few seconds. I don't get digi-jealous. But I DO love me some new cards.
