Something strange is happening in the world of Zen Pinball. And if there's one Marvel superhero capable of handling such a situation, it's the man with “strange” right there in his name. True Believers rejoice, as Zen Studios has announced that a Doctor Strange table will be heading to Zen Pinball 2 and Marvel Pinball this December for the PlayStation 3 and Vita.
It's impossible to deny the rise of Marvel in the past decade. Always a big comic book publisher, the company now partners with movies studios on a regular basis to crank out some of the highest earning, over-the-top, super-charged films of all time. While the numerous video games built on these licenses aren't always a homerun, Zen Stuios' take on the characters and teams of Marvel have thus far been phenomenal, featuring the likes of Wolverine and Spider-Man, teams like The Fantastic Four and The X-Men, and landmark events like Civil War and Fear Itself.
Each of Zen's Marvel tables manages to embody the various branches of the Marvel-verse perfectly, each one offering a unique take on pinball that's deeply inspired by its source material. Pardon me if it sounds like I'm heaping too much praise on the Zen lineup of pinball tables at the moment, but they really do make up a fantastic collection.
And now a new member of the family is ready to take the pinhead world by storm as Doctor Strange gets his very own table in just a couple of months.
Zen Studios has kept themselves pretty busy as of late, too. The latest edition to Zen Pinball 2 and Star Wars Pinball drops this coming Tuesday, introducing players to three new tables in the Balance of the Force DLC pack.
But it looks like even the Star Wars universe wasn't big enough for Zen, as they're still busily crafting tables for their Marvel collection, too.
As for the Doctor Strange table, Zen Community Manager Bobby Loertscher said that fans of the Sorcerer Supreme should expect the new table to be overflowing with references to the mad magicians greatest adventures, complete with the Zen treatment of animated components, table effects and the like.
“Strange's rival sorcerer, Baron Mordo, has called upon the demonic forces of the Dread Dormammu and the Fear Lord, Nightmare, all part of his plot to assume the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme for himself,” Loertscher says in the table's official announcement. “...With the help fo the beautiful Clea and his faithful servant Wong, the Master of the Mystic Arts faces his greatest challenge ever in Doctor Strange pinball.”
Look for it this December via PlayStation Network for Marvel Pinball and Zen Pinball 2.
