Subscribe To Metal Gear Solid 5 Multiplayer Revealed Through Metal Gear Online Trailer Updates
Metal Gear Online will be resurrected with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Kojima Productions showed off four minutes of the updated multiplayer mode during The Game Awards 2014.

The video takes us through an entire multiplayer match. Snake and his team are tasked with recovering a laptop from a desert base defending by the other team. He and his squad take the stealthy approach, with some using optical cloaks to sneak up on guards and take them out.

While infiltrating, one of Snake's teammates is caught by a Fulton trap. This countermeasure straps a balloon to an enemy, lifting them helplessly into the air. This would make it very easy for an enemy to pick him off. However, Snake rescues him by shooting the balloon.

The next defensive measure is even stranger: a wolf doll who resembles Snake's new pet in the MGS5 campaign. One of the soldiers is so infatuated with this doll (hearts begin popping above his head) that he doesn't notice an enemy approach in a small mech armed with a minigun.

The mech has armored plating in the front but there's nothing protecting the pilot from rear attacks. Snake uses some kind of gadget to teleport to a teammate and then sneaks up on the mech. He backstabs the pilot and climbs into the driver's seat. With the mech's minigun, he makes short work of several enemies nearby while his teammate escapes with the laptop.

Two members of the opposing team use riot shields to hide from the gunfire. The shields are sturdy enough to block the minigun fire but they can't withstand a kick from the mech. Snake steps over their corpses to exit the base.

He's not out of the woods yet, though. His mech is hit by a rocket and destroyed. The camera pans over to the shooter: Revolver Ocelot.

Metal Gear Online first launched on PS3 with Metal Gear Solid 4 back in 2008. Konami shut down the servers for MGO in June 2012.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain doesn't have a release date yet. However, it's expected to arrive sometime in 2015.
