NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat X, this time drawing the attention of fans to the one that harbors souls... Ermac. The new trailer is short, sweet and to the point, focusing on Ermac's special abilities and his bone-crunching finisher.
The Mortal Kombat X video opens up with a brief exchange between Sub-Zero and Ermac before getting straight to the butt-kicking. Check it out below.
Unfortunately we don't get to see a whole lot of Ermac in action. Instead we see a few of his combos, some of his special moves and then it's all wrapped up with a rather disturbing look at his finisher within the confines of just one minute.
If you were hoping to get a glimpse at his three different fighting styles, think again. While it would have been pretty awesome to see what sort of fighting styles players would have at their disposal with Ermac, those are sadly withheld until a later date. NetherRealm could be building up hype to get fans excited to see what will appear in the game when it finally launches in the middle of April, this spring.
They did a similar thing with the recent trailers revealing several of the other new characters, too. With Reptile and Kitana we don't actually get to see their fighting variations either, it's just the characters being showcased and a brief look at their finishers. It's good that the team is at least keeping enough hidden behind the curtains so that not everything is spoiled. I also get the impression that we'll likely see more of the moves and abilities of the fighters as the game draws closer to release.
Circling back around to Ermac... he was first introduced way back in Mortal Kombat 3 in the early 1990s. He was one of the many ninjas featured in the 2D fighter back then, along with Noob Saibot, Smoke, Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Originally he was like a mix of Shang Tsung and Smoke, but he eventually started evolving and turning into his own character.
Ermac has undergone a lot of character evolution since the 1990s, becoming one of the more interesting characters on the Mortal Kombat roster and having a style that later began to resemble Kenshi's kinetic fury.
Speaking of Kenshi... a lot of fans are really hoping that Kenshi makes an appearance in Mortal Kombat X at some point. Then again, there are a lot of characters that people are hoping will make a return to the series.
It's nice to see Ermac getting a bit of a visual upgrade a bit more of an identity as far as his visual aesthetic goes. Fans eagerly awaiting the release of the cross-generational fighting game can look for the title to launch on April 14th, 2015 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and on PC.
